Calling all teachers!
You help and we'll split the cost.

It’s unfortunate and unjust that teachers and support staff need to subsidize certain student costs amongst severe educator shortages and underfunding for schools.

Most teachers spend their own money on essential school supplies to help their students learn and feel more comfortable in class. But for many educators, this spending takes its toll.

  • The National Health Association (US) found that, in 2022, over 90% of teachers spent their own money on school supplies and other items their students needed to succeed.

  • Educators spend an average of around $500 out of pocket every year. That’s a hefty bill!

  • Typically, teachers in high-need districts have to subsidize the most supplies.

The Teachers Unite campaign supports teachers everywhere by splitting the cost of essential school supplies with them to cover the $500 that they’re likely to spend every school year.

So how does it work exactly?

The Teachers Unite funding model

Talisa is a teacher and buys supplies for her students.

Talisa uses New Expensify to scan receipts for her supplies purchases.

Wei, her school principal, confirms the expenses are eligible.

Expensify.org pays Talisa for half of her purchases, up to $50.

Thanks for helping us to Save The World.

Please check eligibility criteria carefully below!

Eligibility

This campaign is open to K-12 teachers, instructors, counselors, principals, or aides in schools, who work at least 900 hours during a school year.

Eligible expenses should be considered essential for your classroom and serve a genuine public benefit. In other words, the expenses are essential to furthering the education or wellbeing of your students, and/or promoting a positive school environment to young people in need.

Acceptable categories of expenses:

  • Books
  • Classroom stationery supplies *(e.g. pens, paper, chalk etc)
  • Classroom cleaning & safety supplies *(eg. bandaids, disinfectant, etc)
  • Essential food supplies *(e.g. feeding a child or youth who is food insecure)
  • Classroom/education equipment *(e.g. computer equipment, software, and services)

Expenses must follow the below guidelines:

  1. The maximum limit on any single expense is $100 (which results in a $50 reimbursement from Expensify.org).
  2. All submissions must include an itemized, legible receipt with the merchant, date, and amount clearly shown.
  3. The maximum number of reimbursements paid to any one teacher within the school year is 10. School year runs Sep-August inclusively.
